In this discussion and activity-based course, students take a deep dive into American history. This immersive class will transport students to the time of the Pilgrims, the Civil Rights movement, and much more! My class is open for 6-8th grade students. My classes are on a 3-year rotation covering all required middle school social studies: Ancient World History, Medieval World History, and American History. While American History is an 8th grade standard in California, this class is open for all middle schoolers. Grading and expectations are adjusted to the student's age and grade level. If your child is in 6th grade and they continue with PCLC through 8th grade, they will complete all required social studies classes.

Designed for students in 9th grade, this interactive social studies course provides students with a solid foundation from which to study all other social sciences. Civics is the study of citizenship and government. This one-semester, A-G high school course provides students with a basic understanding of civic life, politics, and government, and a short history of government’s foundation and development in this country. Students learn how power and responsibility are shared and limited by government, the place of law in the American constitutional system, and which rights the American government guarantees its citizens. Students also examine how the world is organized politically and how civic participation in the American political system compares to that in other societies around the world today.

This is a one year advanced course in American Sign Language Level 3. Throughout this course, students will master comprehension, expression, language fluency and proficiency. Extensive study through all letters in the Gallaudet ASL dictionary will ensure in students a strong vocabulary recognition and use. Students will further encounter and explore Deaf culture and history, gaining advanced cultural awareness. Students will work towards mastering confidence in active communication, and conversational fluidity. Students will understand the use of ASL in wide variety of settings from casual to professional. This dynamic class is designed to encourage beginning readers and writers to love great books and enjoy the writing process. Throughout the course, students will learn how to write complete sentences, whole paragraphs, and their own creative stories. Games, art projects, and group work will help lay a foundation for a lifelong love of literature!
Students will average reading one book per week and complete simple homework assignments. The work load is entirely flexible, based on each student’s ability, and the teacher will work closely with parents to provide a personalized program that is challenging, but never overwhelming.
Child must be in the 1-2 grade, and they need to be able to recognize and write their ABCs. They need to be able to focus and engage in a lesson for 1 hour. If anyone younger than 1st grade is interested in this class, they must take a small assessment test before registering.

Strong writing skills are essential for school and far beyond. This interactive workshop helps students gain proficiency in writing strong essays. This ONLINE writing intensive provides students with concentrated writing instruction specific to assignments given in Writtenburg Door courses. Pre-Calculus is a 2 semester AG course that covers all of the California standards. Pre-Calculus weaves together previous study of algebra, geometry, and mathematical functions into a preparatory course for calculus. Psychology is the study of the human mind and behavior. In this year-long intro course, students will gain insight into the birth of psychology, its major figures, perspectives, and most famous studies. This course will also cover topics including memory, learning and cognitive development, motivation, personality theories, lifespan development, and social psychology. The main goal of this course is for students to develop the ability to analyze and evaluate the views they come across and to strengthen their own ability to take a stand. Students will learn to exercise various strategies for making and analyzing arguments, evaluating evidence, spotting and avoiding faulty reasoning. Course material and class discussions will often be applied to real-world issues.
It takes practice to master the skills involved in critical thinking. For most class sessions, students will be expected to do some reading, and then do some homework problems from the textbook. As long as students keep up with the reading and homework, the course should not be overly demanding. In fact, be prepared to have fun with this fascinating material!

Students are instructed to engage in regular writing exercises designed to draw out and hone the creative process while generating raw material for creative projects assigned throughout the year, including: metered and rhyming poems, free verse poems, spoken word, stream of consciousness writing, short story, personal reflection writing, and feedback letters. Students are guided through each stage of writing fiction, from drafting all the way to revision and publishing with a heavy emphasis on how to effectively use the elements of character, plot, setting, and point of view. Presentations of the students’ creations will be followed by lessons in the important life skill of giving respectful, helpful, and constructive feedback, as well as how to receive comments with grace and humility in their pursuit of growth as writers.

This entry-level course is designed to introduce high school students to general shop practices. Projects are designed to give students as much experience as possible through using different machines and tools. Instruction covers as many aspects of design, building, and woodworking as possible. Students expand their knowledge and experience through various hands-on projects, lessons, and mechanical vocabulary, and are expected to learn shop safety and the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery. Through lectures and demonstrations, the instructor introduces challenges such as designing projects with a budget, material selection, as well as project building, assembly, and finishing.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have shop skills that will be useful in any aspect of construction and industrial arts. Additionally, the student will gain a broader understanding of construction processes as well as more in depth problem solving skills.

In this class, your student will learn critical survival skills for both urban and wilderness settings. Learning survival skills builds confidence, self-reliance, and resilience. Survival awareness is about preparation, not fear. The basic scenarios covered will be; Urban Disaster Survival. You are separated from your family and your home. Upon arriving home, you have no access to water, electricity, or gas. Learn skills to move through the city, make clean water, create warmth, find food, treat medical issues, and safely dispose of waste. Wilderness Survival; you're camping in the wilderness and get separated from your group. Now you are lost. How will you survive until help arrives? Learn how to find water and clean it for consumption, make fires and shelters, and identify edible plants. Navigation with a compass and a map and essential fishing and trapping will also be covered. A final mandatory weekend survival camping trip is included in the cost of the class. Camping trip will be April 18-19, 2026.
