This general chemistry course fulfills one of the two years of high school science necessary for graduation. This class is a-g certified provided your charter school or PSP has approved it. Topics include: The structure of an atom, elements of the periodic table, chemical bonding, molecular structure and reactivity, mole concepts and stoichiometry, gases, solutions, acids & bases, reaction rates and chemical equilibrium, redox reactions and electrochemistry, and introduction to biochemistry and organic chemistry. Weekly lecture & hands-on labs, and tests per each chapter. All supplies are provided when students are in person. ALL NEW THIS YEAR! We have added a bi-weekly in-person Chemistry study hall on Mondays from 1:00-2:45 pm. This session is not mandatory but offered as extra help for those students who need it.
Pre-requisites: Completion of Algebra 1
Students who add the HONORS portion will have additional information and assignments to complete. Students will cover material appropriate for them to take the CLEP exam for college credit. Honors students are encouraged to attend bi-weekly chemistry study hall or office hours on Mondays from 1:00-2:45 pm but are not required to do so.
