Description

This A-G Statistics 2 semester course introduces students to the fundamental concepts of statistical analysis and data-based decision making. The curriculum emphasizes practical applications of statistics across various fields, from social sciences to business, helping students develop the quantitative reasoning skills essential for college success and professional careers. Through hands-on investigations and real-world case studies, students learn to think critically about data and draw meaningful conclusions.
The course begins with exploratory data analysis, including methods of data collection, graphical and numerical summaries, and the study of normal distributions. Students then investigate probability concepts and random variables, laying the groundwork for understanding sampling distributions. The second semester focuses on statistical inference, covering confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, and regression analysis. Throughout the year, students gain proficiency with statistical software and graphing calculators while working with authentic data sets.
Assessment includes regular homework, unit tests, and practical projects that emphasize statistical investigation and interpretation. Students complete comprehensive projects that demonstrate their ability to collect, analyze, and draw meaningful conclusions from data. The course utilizes a graphing calculator (TI-84 Plus) and statistical software to enhance understanding and prepare students for college-level work. This course is strategically designed to prepare students for College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests, offering a powerful pathway to academic acceleration and college readiness. By mastering course content and potentially passing CLEP exams, students can:

  • Earn college credits while still in high school
  • Reduce future college tuition costs by thousands of dollars
  • Demonstrate advanced academic capabilities to prospective schools
  • Skip introductory college courses and move directly into more advanced studies
  • Build confidence in standardized testing and college-level academic skills
  • Get a head start on college curriculum and degree requirements
