Description

World History: Does your high school student have a comprehensive understanding of the major events that have shaped our world? Does he/she understand how different governments work, and how religion, culture? Can your student identify all major aspects of world geography? By taking this course, students will gain all of this knowledge, plus public speaking and essay writing experience. Rather than just absorbing facts from a textbook, students engage in lively, discussion-based lectures, read historical fiction novels, memorize geography using songs and mnemonics, and do internet research and writing projects to make the past come to life. World Literature: Through vibrant discussions, activities, movies, documentaries, and actually reading the literature, this course aims to grow a deep love and appreciation for classic literature from all over the world. In addition to reading and discussing culturally diverse works, instruction includes reading comprehension, text analysis and annotation, essay writing strategies, research, grammar and spelling mechanics, oral presentations, multimedia presentations, tests and quizzes, and more. This fast-paced course requires students to complete daily reading and homework assignments, and turn them in for evaluation every week. Parents, students, and the instructor will collaborate through the year to ensure understanding and completion. Grades will be assigned according to the student’s homework, tests and quizzes, writing assignments, presentations, and class participation.
