Description

Students will explore the history and evolution of the American comic book superheroes that brought us the Marvel universe we know today as the MCU. We will explore early history of notable characters and their creators, following the comic book culture into the modern era and exploring these characters in the creation of TV shows and movies. Students will gain a greater appreciation of not only the original artist and history, but appreciation of the filmmaking, modern portrayal of these characters and the cultural impact. Through film and story review students will also learn to note themes, analyze story progression, analyze characters and understand character development. In addition to lectures, class time will include ample discussion time for students to share their own thoughts and opinions, providing a space for community building through common interest. Students will leave with a deeper knowledge of Marvel history and their created worlds and a new like-minded community network.
